Pa Dong "Long-Necked Women"

Watched National Geographic today and they had this interesting show featuring the long-necked woman in Myanmar.

I've heard of them and had done an article about them a while back. These people are often pictured as strange tribe living with rings all over their body, especially neck thus the name "long-necked women". They are often wrongly presumed that they dislike wearing the neck-ring which is absolutely untrue. It's widely circulated that the reason why they have this long lived tradition is because their ancestors were not keen on seeing the people from their village leaving the tribe. So the "long-necked" people should marry among themselves and continue to preserve their tribe and tradition.

Not only adult women wear the ring, small children wear it as well. They don't get to see their neck for as long as one decade. Well, in my opinion, as long as it is not harmful and they love wearing it, they should continue to do it.

There's this village in Thailand which you can visit the "long-necked women". So next time when you are in Thailand, pay them a visit. Get some life enrichment. =)
