Re: Corporate Slave

Credit: Found this on google image, thanks!

Nicole has got an interesting post up on being a corporate slave. For those who are on the same boat, I guess we can pretty much relay to this. However, every company is different,so,there bound to be some differences.

So back to the question, how exactly do I "kill" my time at work? Geeez, I'm actually jeopardizing my career to describe it here, you never know, maybe my manager is reading this. haha Anyway, for the sake of good faith, I'm going to reveal my secrets.

Some of the regular things that I do during non-rush hour at work:

  • Walk really slowly to the restroom and then spend maybe 10 minutes there, take slow steps back to cubicle, whole trip is approximately 15 minutes :P, do this at least 5 times a day haha

  • To make myself look better at work, pretend to be busy, the keyword is "RESEARCH"..when being questioned, I'M DOING MY RESEARCH! But seriously, I'm just on social networking sites

  • Lunch, this one is tricky, usually we only get 1 hour for lunch, so I prefer to go for lunch around 2pm, when I return to the office, it's 3pm+, yippeee, go online, surf for another 1 hour+ and you're gone! Usually people do not suspect anything after 3pm because they themselves are surfing online

  • Get water! My favorite of all. Spend at least 5 minutes getting water and bonding time! Chat with colleagues and spend another extra 5 minutes! Whoooooohooo

  • Since I have never had a printer really close to my work area, getting printouts are usually a short distance trip, so, start printing!!!!! Oh, what about helping others to get their printouts too haha

  • Of course I don't do these stuff frequently, ONLY, ok, only during times when there's not much to do in the office. Pretending to be busy is like the hardest thing on earth! But I try to kill my time by doing the things I mentioned. Getting a cup of coffee is a good reason to "pretend" to be busy. Your manager or office will understand that you need the caffeine. ;)

I don't feel it's too difficult spending 9-5 at work. I think it's kind of good to get out of your house, just pretend you are working on your homework each time and get paid. Hey, you get to mingle with your colleagues too, so those are like your friends, only that they are from a working place not school.

I like the getting paid part the most though. =P

    Ciao!

Sticks and Stones can't Hurt Me

I need something else in life. I have wasted much of my time doing nothing at all. It's time to grow up and set some goals.

I still have 6 mths to the end of the year. So my objectives are:

    - Better my skills in online marketing.
    - Go hiking and camping at least for another two times.
    - Call friends whom I have not been in touch for a long time.
    - Save money for my annual trip.
    - Bake more goodies for G-Man.
    - Eat healthily.
    - Stop getting sick!
    - Network and social with new friends.
    - Be a more responsible daughter, call mom more often.
    - Work harder and focus. Show some positive results at work.

I think there are gaps in my life which can be filled with more encouraging details. I should go to Border's tonight and get some books to begin with.

    Love,

    Amy

    Dark Gloomy Depressing Days

I'm starting a new job end of this month with a company in the financial district, so, I had to go for their occupational urinal test, to test whether I'm a druggie or not. They arranged me to go to this test center close to Disney store. I walked past Disney Store and saw some cute 'Oswald" pictures selling on the shelves. Upon closer look, it's selling for 3 bucks! So what's going on?! Marked down price cannot be $3! Yup, Disney Stores in San Francisco are closing down soon, permanently. It brought me a huge shock as well as disappointment. The stores are doing so miserably that they gotta close down now. A lot of shops in downtown San Francisco had already shut their doors forever. Even though we got stores like De Beers and new Prada corner establishment opening up, it's simply not enough to accommodate the empty nests in downtown.

    My Home, My Kampung

Back in the days of growing up in Malaysia, I was really proud knowing that my country had the tallest building in the world, we're the first country to implement the RFID technology (smart chip for passport/ID), we're the organizer of F1 races, we're known for our exotic beaches and throngs of new modern malls. However, things have taken a downturn now. Crime rates are going up, people are complaining of price hikes, demonstrations that ruin the reputation of a safe country, cases of corruptions with the government, it's deeply saddening.

I am happy that I have lived through the glorious days of my country yet at the same time, I am sad because the spark has now gone.

Our Bapa Pembangunan has since retired but still fighting a constant battle with policies set by the current government, injustice, and UMNO.

Even though I'm physically not in Malaysia, my heart is still very much with the country. Please, no more destructions to this once beautiful and safe country I fondly remember as home.

Okay guys, it took me a while to compose that. Geezz, I didn't know I was this bad. I wanted to compose a better one but my brain has blocked out most of the nicer words. hahaha How did I do it before? Maybe it's time to look back once again.

    Malaysia boleh!

    Conspiracy with Rising Gas Prices?

People talk about it. You talk about it. Market, on the streets, malls, office, you have probably heard this common topic 5 million times. So what the hell am I talking about?

    GAS PRICE!!!!

We had an almost empty tank few days ago, so, we went to the gas station to fill it up. Normally we would pay around $80 for a full tank and that amount itself is crazy enough for a miser like me. Beep, the sound of the gas machine when the tank's filled up. WHOA! WHAT THE F &*(@EN(&@()UE( (BIRDS, BEES AND INSECTS! HOLY!) $103.++! Damn it, my heart almost skipped a beat. Lord, three digits for gas! I don't take 3 digits for an answer. Hell no. So what should I do? Like freaking pour rain water into the gas tank?

High gas prices have in fact immobilized a lot of people and the only way to survive without having to pay hefty gas price would be, walking. But how far and for how long? Bay area has pretty excellent public transportation but it's definitely not as well built comparing to most European countries. We are doomed. Not by nature or by God, but by the doings of us, normal citizens who have neglected a lot of things in the past and greedy human beings that are positioned so mighty high in the society.

Food prices are up too. We have a habit of dining out at least thrice a week but we have to cut that now. With diners like us cutting on dining out, restaurants lose business. Sooner or later, more and more people would do the same and restaurants start going bust and disappearing one by one. Nightmare.

Maybe I should start doing some agricultural work in the backyard, plant some potatoes and tomatoes. Make soup everyday and die of malnutrition one day. Ok, I've exaggerated. But this will happen someday if prices don't go down. I'm sure Hollywood probably has a movie in the making adopting this idea, titled " WE ARE SO F-CKED UP".
    Please pardon my language.

Hopefully I can survive another $100+ tank. God, my heart is weak, my bank account is weaker. Please, do something about this!!!!!!

    Signed,

    "Pledge From a Poor Citizen"

    Angry Rhino Experiencing Constipation

So we went to SF zoo today. Had an awesome time checking out the animals (most don't really belong to US). It's really strange that we didn't find any California wild animals or North American this/that. Almost all the animals were either imported from Africa or Australia.

Anyway, we were extremely lucky because the animals weren't sleeping but out playing actively. I've posted a video of this rhino by himself in his "penthouse". He was trying to run down the door to the indoor area but too bad, the zoo authority must have predicted his destructive or you can call it his rude behavior (he doesn't have a habit of knocking on the door) that a thick metal bar was built to prevent damages. Look closely and you can see some signs of his "knocking", the door has some big holes on it. I didn't capture this on a video, so just use your imagination a little. A rhino, some holes and some freaked out zoo keepers! :P
